ENGINE WEAKNESS'sBottom end and mid range performance can be dramatically improved with ECU tune. The engine is detuned by Mitsubishi and also Torque limited when delivered by the factory.Poor boost control with the factory standard settings can be annoying. Boost control, can be improved. (Engine does not have closed loop boost control) The factory turbo is reliable, but if over boosted with boost controllers etc will result in wasted power.Soot build up due to EGR is common (costs long term to clean!) and thius is part of the retune and also improved with the ECU upgrade

INTERCEPTOR ECU OPTIONNot worth really considering as the intercptors simply do not have enough options to tune and modify the latest technoplogy control inputs.Plus in ECU devices simply increase fuel deleivery, resultiong in poor engine efficiency and huge smoke outputs. This also results in long terem excessive soot build up in manifolds
NEW (replacement) ECUFactory ECU retune is best value unless a really serious engine rebuild is chosen. NOTE 4 x 2 model is DETUNED more than the 4 X 4 See notes above
INTERCOOLERFactory fitted unit is good, dont fit a replacement FRONT mount.ONLY fit aftermarket bigger intercooler after major engine modifications
INJECTORSOEM Injectors are big enough.
FUEL PUMPMore than adequateEXHAUST(Some traps for people here, unless carefully chosen.)Turbo engine pipes with collector to fit wastegate will help marginally, but costly to fit and will add some throttle response. 80% of Torque gained is via ECU tune and the remaning 20% is exhaust and other minor mods
AIR INTAKEOther than a intake noise no power here. A replacement panel filter in the std airbox will save on future servicing but give no power improvement.Sorkels dont add power, just water crossing safety.
ENGINE ANCILLIARIESCrank case breathers and other minor mods only here.
TURBOIf you have the budget a (bigger) turbo upgrade will add (peak) Torque, but be careful the OEM turbo is damn good and very hard top beat and is best kept in place unless you have the right other parts to match a new turbo upgrade.ECU tune is best value firstIf you want big grunt and big torque then ok, this is an option here, then you need to plan a engine rebuild or be wary of the resulting load on the engine.
ENGINE INTERNALA rare occurance. A rebuild will cost over $7k and then you need to choose carefully there are many options, but only if you REALLY want to.
OTHER OPTIONSIs the car serviced correctly? Because often a service by a workshop who really knows Mitsubishi's will be your best choice for first place for power and reliability.
