Dan Day, son of Sean and Joanne Day of S&J Automotive, has had an incredible inaugural tarmac rally, finishing 5th outright from 48 starters and finishing 4th outright in the Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally which is round 1 of the Australian Tarmac Rally Championship.

Dan Day in the Adelaide Hills Tarmac RallyEven more impressive is that his WRX has 180kw ATW with the 34mm restrictor in place, compared with the many Evo IX and STi cars that ran without the restrictors with power figures of 240-280kw ATW. Pretty impressive for someone who turned 17 not two weeks ago!

Dan recently travelled to Sydney with the support and sponsorship of MRT and Osborne Motorsport to attend an intensive public speaking course with a well known coach, then attended the Motor Magazine Hot Tuner Challenge where he met V8 Supercar drivers Steven Richards and Warren Luff as well as inspecting the top 30 improved cars from around Australia being tested on the track, drag strip, dyno and skid pan.

After that he travelled to Goulburn for a MRT Performance Track day with his mentor Steve Glenney where he test drove MRT’s latest project car, the Mazda 3 MPS Gen 2, and spent time with Brett Middleton, Wayne Boatwright and Len Macintosh, both also assisting with driver training at the MRT track day.

MRT is very excited in the potential of this very talented young driver - here is Dan's report of his first tarmac rally:

Buy your new or used car quick!

The big secret is the Japanese manufacturers don't want you to know that delivery times on some models are late this year, or even next year!

Japanese Earthquake Sales Impact

Yes that's correct, the impact of the Japanese earthquake and resulting tsunami has had a devastating effect in parts suppliers to brands such as:

  • Subaru
  • Mitsubishi
  • Toyota
  • Mazda and more

When MRT spoke to one dealer the other day the Sales Manager said "sales are strong now, but in the next few months we wont have anything to sell."

Highlighting this, other non Japanese based manufacturers such as Hyundai have trebled their import projections in anticipation of huge sales to meet the demand left by the vacuum of Japanese brands until stock levels can be restored.

One Chinese manufacturer has rushed through ADR compliance on a new model to take advantage of sales at the expense of the Toyota Hilux and Mitsubishi Triton.

MRT has a dedicated page to assist clients with new and used car purchases, so follow this link for an easy solution to deal with someone you can trust.

For a long time, we've been hearing a lot about the Toyota FT-86 and hardly a peep about the Subaru version of the shared sports platform. The FT-86 has been around for more than a year with a few different versions, whilst all we've seen from Subaru is a very conceptual skeleton of a car with engine and accompanying hardware.

Toyota or Subaru FT-86

But, according to Inside Line, that's all about to change. Subaru will look to launch a full car at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show in December, the same venue where Toyota plans to launch the production version of the FT-86. As the report goes, Subaru will aim to crank production up by spring and have cars on their way to the States shortly thereafter. So, the Tokyo version should look close--if not identical--to the final production version. In other words, Subie's playing some serious catch-up.

DDisc Brakes Australia new T-Slot rotorsisc Brakes Australia has recently announced the biggest leap forward in performance braking since 1997.

It has a new name, T-SLOT with a completely new look and distinctive curved slots on each rotor face. These patented slots interweave to bring major performance and practical advantages.

It was in 1997 that DBA introduced affordable DBA GOLD and DBA slotted rotors to the Australian “direct replacement” brake market. Hundreds of thousands of people around the world have since enjoyed the benefits.

The new T-SLOT discs are destined to broaden that appeal still further, as well as increase DBA’s reach into the motor sport and street performance market.

Disc Brakes Australia new T-Slot rotors“We set some pretty ambitious performance targets when we developed our sports rotors all those years ago,” says the company’s Managing Director Phillip Joseph. “Ever since then we’ve kept to our policy of continuous improvement to ensure increased durability, better fade resistance and even shorter stopping distances."

“Now we are going to market with the biggest single improvement of all: T-SLOT design.”

The new slotting is available in two performance options, the entry level T2 slot and the more elaborate T3 slot designs. Remarkably, the major performance increases have been achieved without the need for directional slots. That means no more ‘lefts’ and ‘rights.’ Another huge advantage is reduced noise under heavy braking.
